Hi! I'm Evan and I love to cook.  Actually,  I love all things culinary ... whether it is the history of recipes, the science of baking, or where the food comes from. I love finding out  how food is grown or farmed.  I love it all. Because of my intense questioning of flavors and textures, I'm sometimes even called the "Nerd Chef". 

Some of my earliest and fondest memories contain food.  My grandmother’s pound cake conjures up stories of hope and pursuit of better life as she traveled North from North Carolina as a teen.  My dad’s tomato sauce that has no recipe, but is absolutely different and delicious every time.

Today, I combine my passion for food with my curious nature to try and create new things. I like to put my own spin on things. This is what it means to Evanate. 

On this site, I hope to bring you all things Evan.  I want to talk to you about real food. 
  • I want you know about new recipes that I have tried and hope you will enjoy. I have been known to Evanate a dish to make it gluten-free or vegetarian, low-salt, paleo, etc.
  • I want you to know about gardening tips whether you are a master gardener or an indoor city-dweller.  You can make your garden work to bring a bit of freshness to your plate.
  • Not only do I cook, I taste.  I love going to restaurants and checking out what is new and different, but also what is tried and true. When I find a restaurant that is really doing great things, I'll let you know. 
  • Charity through food.  This is my favorite. Please check out updates on how I use food to help others.
